The register
157 of 164 people in the source, published
Everyone the source records and everyone this archive has since established from a document, with the three kinds of entry kept firmly apart: the family proper, a hundred-odd people who share the surname and have not been shown to share anything else, and seven found in Berlin registers who are in nobody’s tree at all.
The Record read column was added on 17 September 2026, and it exists because until that day no build script in this archive read a single one of its twenty-one evidence files. What a census or the Gedenkbuch actually said reached these pages only if somebody retyped it. What has actually been read →
The column says whether a record has been read about the person. It does not change a date: the dates below are still the source tree’s own, question marks and all. Where a named source overrides the family record that is a correction, carried as was and now.

Found in a register, in nobody’s tree
The two tables above and below are both built from one source: a MyHeritage harvest, which is somebody else’s research. These seven are not in it and never were. They came out of Berlin civil registers and the 1939 census, read here — and until 9 October 2026 there was nowhere on this site to put them, so three of them existed only as a line in an evidence file while the narrative page went on saying the women simply vanish.
Every entry carries its own basis, and two of the seven say plainly that they are a text layer not yet confirmed at the image. Three more are a register entry that is certain, attached to a directory woman by a candidate identification that is not. None of the seven is proved kin to Derrick’s line — the same standing as the hundred below. They are here because losing them was worse. Unproven kinship
| Name | Born | Died | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gerda Felicitas Bade (Leibholz) | — | Feb 15 1993 | DOCUMENTED, AND THE IMAGE CANNOT CONFIRM IT — WHICH REVERSES THIS ARCHIVE'S USUAL RULE. Standesamt Wilmersdorf, Sterberegister 1993 Nr. 312, P Rep. 570 Nr. 3306. Both her entries were opened on 9 October: “Bade geb. Leibholz, Gerda Felicitas, 15.02.1993” on page 7 under B and “Leibholz, Gerda Felicitas, 15.02.1993” on page 74 under L, THE SAME NUMBER 312 FROM TWO UNRELATED POSITIONS SIXTY-SEVEN PAGES APART — the series checking itself. The page SCAN is a faint degraded photocopy and her line is barely resolvable, so there is no image confirmation; for these 1993 volumes the text layer is NOT OCR of that scan but a clean born-digital transcription, and it is the better witness. SHE WAS BORN A LEIBHOLZ AND MARRIED OUT, so she had Leibholz parents in Berlin within living memory and is the only one of the seven pointing upward. HER FATHER IS NOT REACHABLE FREE: the marriage indexes stop at 1944 and every volume tested is completely blind, and her index entry carries no birth date to narrow by. Sterberegister Wilmersdorf 1993 Nr. 312 would name her parents outright. |
| Agnes Leibholz (Kerger) | Mar 10 1889 | not established | DOCUMENTED ALIVE, DEATH NOT FOUND. Born at MALLMITZ, KREIS SPROTTAU, SILESIA — today Małomice in Poland, so she had no home region left to return to after 1945. 1939 census supplementary card VZ153403, Bundesarchiv R 1509; "race" NNNN, four non-Jewish grandparents, so she is in a database of the persecuted only by marriage. Berlin directories and telephone books at Mehringdamm 109 from 1957 to 1979-80. NOT IN ANY WEST BERLIN DEATH REGISTER 1967-1994: all twelve boroughs read, year coverage verified, only Neukölln 1993-94 missing. |
| Charlotte Herta Marie Leibholz (Schötzow) | — | Jan 14 1982 | DOCUMENTED. Standesamt Tempelhof, Sterberegister 1982 Nr. 161, read at the image. CANDIDATE, NOT PROVED, for the Charlotte Leibholz of Hasenheide 61-62, Neukölln, in the directories 1957-1967: surname, forename and the adjacent borough, with Neukölln's own registers read out for 1967-1992 and empty. The gap is fifteen years, the weakest of the three. |
| Ella Josephine Martha Leibholz (Baesler) | — | June 22 1974 | DOCUMENTED. Standesamt Tiergarten, Sterberegister 1974 Nr. 1160, read at the image. CANDIDATE, NOT PROVED, for the Ella Leibholz who is a Krankenschwester in the Berlin directories 1938-1970 at Dominicusstraße 43 and Willmanndamm 3: surname, forename and a four-year gap, with Schöneberg's own registers read out for 1970-1994 and empty. No birth date on the index entry. |
| Heinrich Leibholz | Oct 16 1890 | Aug 9 1948 | DOCUMENTED. Death in the register, read at the image: Standesamt Kreuzberg, Sterberegister 1948 Nr. 2493, under the August heading of P Rep. 510 Nr. 667 p.180, the day column running in step with the register numbers either side. Birth date and birthplace from the 1939 census card. |
| Hertha Leibholz | — | 1983 | *** NOT YET CONFIRMED AT THE IMAGE. *** Found in the TEXT LAYER of Standesamt Zehlendorf, Namensverzeichnis zum Sterberegister 1983, P Rep. 721 Nr. 2767 p.80: "Leibholz gesch. Katznol Hertha … 2733". "Gesch." is geschieden, so Leibholz is most likely her own name and Katznol the marriage she left. The exact death date is not read. |
| Hilde Henriette Leibholz | — | Feb 7 1983 | DOCUMENTED. Standesamt Wilmersdorf, Sterberegister 1983 Nr. 304, read at the image. THE STRONGEST OF THE THREE CANDIDATES and the only one who died in her own borough: Hilde Leibholz is in nine consecutive telephone books at Wiesbadener Straße 57, Wilmersdorf, to 1980-81, and the gap is about two years. No "geb." on the entry, so Leibholz was her own name. |
| Johanne Klara Leipsholz (Diedring) | — | Feb 4 1960 | DOCUMENTED, READ AT THE IMAGE. Standesamt Kreuzberg, Sterberegister 1960 Nr. 316, P Rep. 510 Nr. 679 p.123 under the Februar heading; religion column a dash. THE SURNAME IS SPELT LEIPSHOLZ, WITH AN S — a ninth spelling of this name and a registrar's own, not a machine's, read at five times magnification. STRONG CANDIDATE, NOT PROVED, for the KLARA LEIPHOLZ, Putzmacherin, of SW 29 Dieffenbachstraße 58 who is in the Berlin directories of 1957 and 1959 and gone after: the forename is Klara, the borough is Kreuzberg, and she died in the FIRST BLIND YEAR after her last directory entry, with 1959 read at the image and empty and 1963-1994 swept and empty. Against it: the spelling differs by a letter and “geb. Diedring” is a maiden name this archive has never held. Kreuzberg 1960 Nr. 316 gives the last address and settles it. NOT KIN TO ANYONE HERE ON ANY EVIDENCE. |
The surname index — not ancestry
The source tree hangs about a hundred people off two nodes literally named “UNKNOWN PLACEHOLDERS Luwinski” and “Germany Luwinski”. They run from 1757 to 1929 and carry Polish spouse surnames — Grzegorzewska, Kruczyńska, Paturalska, Sabędzka, Błożkiewicz, Leciejewska, Melkowa, Klich.
That is a collection of every Luwinski found in the German and Polish registers, parked under a placeholder so it could be kept. It is useful and worth keeping. It is not descent, and it is not presented here as though it were. Not one of these people has been shown to connect to Joachim Luwinski of Allenstein. Unproven
And this is where the photographs are Unproven
Opening every image in the source tree produced seven identified faces. Two are Georg Leibholz, murdered at Chełmno — the only picture in the archive of anyone who was killed. The other five are all one family: Josef Fuhl (b. 1876) and Martha Fuhl née Schulz (b. 1874) of Berlin, their daughter Helene Auguste (1905–1977) in a cloche hat, her husband Josef Turowski (1902–1963) in a stiff collar, and their daughter Helene Maria Frubrich née Turowski (1930–2020).
They reach this tree because another Fuhl daughter, Martha (b. 14 September 1903), married Leo Luwinski, born 22 March 1902. And Leo's father, in the source tree, is “Germany Luwinski” — the placeholder above. He is given twenty-four brothers whose dates run from 1807 to 1923.
So the archive now has faces, and they are ordinary ones: a wedding hat, a suit, a woman grown old in a garden. But they are faces from the index, not from the line. Nothing connects Leo Luwinski to Joachim Luwinski of Allenstein except the surname, and until something does, these are photographs of a family that may be no relation at all. They are named here and not shown.
